Neurostimulator evaluations
- Evaluation helps prepare you mentally and physically for the procedure and helps your doctor make recommendations to help you adjust to having an implanted device. Each person responds differently when a device is implanted in their body. Some people may not respond well; it can cause increased worry and anxiety, which can reduce the effectiveness of the device.
- Success outcomes can be affected by factors such as depression, anxiety, and somatization — when physical symptoms arise from psychological issues you may not get as much relief from the neurostimulator and/or may need to receive psychological treatment for your mental health symptoms to help you get relief from the physical pain
- It is important for your medical professionals to know ahead of time if you have any mental health difficulties and be sure you get the recommended support for those before your procedure to improve your chances of success with the procedure.
- The evaluation also determines your level of coping skills with pain and other factors that may affect your experience of pain
- Evaluation helps your physician and/or insurance company be sure that you are psychologically ready for the procedure
